Today Stinky and I made the trip into town to visit the health food store, it’s a good 25 minute drive, so I consider it a road trip! They had super great deals on fruit and veggies, and I’m actually trying to eat healthy this week. So get ready for some “healthy” recipes!
I decided to baby-wear in the store today, and I’m super glad I did. Because Stinks was very fussy the whole drive (she usually loves the car) and when we got to the store, the carts for the car seats were at the very back. Nearly impossible to get with a baby in your arms. So she was strapped on the front and we got to shopping!
For the menu this week:
- Fruit smoothies for the rest of the week
- Skillet Shrimp and Sausage
- Spaghetti Squash and Meatballs
- Beef Soup
- BBQ Chicken Bake
Get ready for all of that to be changed later!
For all my food, and a 6 pack of specialty beer (*gasp* Yes I drink.), it was $40! Which is really good for fresh fruits and veggies. I had these super cool reusable bags I got AT THE DOLLAR STORE. Guys, these bags are so cool. The fold up super small, but they stretch across the cart and it makes it super easy to throw your food in when you have your hands full. It was a dollar for both! And they’re as deep as the cart. I was able to fit everything I bought in both bags.
The part that you need to look out for when shopping for the week is the meat. The meat can get super expensive. But I managed to snag some pretty good deals! They had shrimp for $3.77 per lb, which is a crazy good deal. Shrimp freezes really well, so I saved half of it for another day! One tip I do have, put your meats with your bagged veggies, just in case. I’m glad I did! The Butcher didn’t bag my sausage properly (Giggity) and some of it was poking out. So I re-wrapped it and saved the day!
(my wienie is showing!)
Now for the fun part. Fruit prep! I set everything up, got my recipes out, and went to work! I decided to test out the “strawberry/straw” trick. Amazing. Highly recommend it!
In love with the perfect baby watermelon slice and the minecraft pineapple squares.
Tada! Strawberry/spinach/watermelon, strawberry/spinach/blackberry, orange/mango/pineapple. SUPER stoked to try these out tomorrow! I had some milk that was about to expire, so I put it in the freezer in an ice cube tray. Now I have some for smoothies and my coffee!
I had some extra fruit left over, so I made a fruit salad and made some watermelon balls for snacks!
The fruit salad was a lot of fun, I mixed half a packet of sugar free vanilla pudding with a half a cup of orange juice. Mixed that with the fruit, and it was sooooo good!
I also decided to start a compost pile! Because why not.
I just threw all the fruit bits on some soil, threw more soil on top of that, and called it a day!
I also also decided to attempt to grow my own pineapple plant, and try to make some candied orange peels! I’ll let you know how it goes!
So yeah, lots to do today. Maybe it’ll turn out. maybe it wont. Who knows.
